Miserable weather!

I couldn't have waited one more day? Today was the last appointment for awhile, the consult about the colonoscopy. It is -17 C (1F) with a wind chill of -29 C (-20 F). In spite of two coats, long johns, scarf, hat & hood, I think I got a bit of frostbite, in just a few minutes worth of exposure to the wind. Not probably enough to do serious damage, but my cheeks were aching by the time I got indoors.

So, the appointment was a bit of a farce. I got a physical (after a fashion) from Junior Dr. and he took all my information and history. Then the Dr. that will be doing (or supervising) the actual scope came in for a couple of minutes and concurred that I need a colonoscopy. Yep, that's why I'm here dipshit! (no, I didn't say that). Now, of course, I have to wait until March to get the actual scope done. Hopefully by then, the weather will be more pleasant - of course, here, there is no guarantee of that. I am sure the only reason I had a physical was so they could bill healthcare for it. The last three or four times I have had this done, the G.P. I see has been the one to give me the instructions and the cleanser and I have only met the gastroenterologist just before they knock you out. Those were all before the latest round of cuts I guess. Whatever.

So, Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad, where ever you may be.

Have a good day all.

Oh wow, why does it take so long before you can have the procedure done? Down here the doctor's can't wait to get their hands ony ou so they can bill you for it right away. Is it normal to have to wait 2 months to have testing like that done?

I'd be thankful for the two month reprieve before that procedure, if it were me...but then again, depending on the reason for needing to have it done, two months seems a bit long to have to wait. Is it just a normal- you're at that point that it's just prudent practice to have one or is there something going on in which they have deemed needs a closer look at? In which case, two months may mean the difference in catching something early enough to recover vs having waited too long, ya know? Not trying to flip you out, just concerned. The most important thing I learned in Nursing School is that as the patient, you are your own best advocate, and you have to stand up for your own rights and your own health care needs.

Emily, you obviously have more Dr`s than you know what to do with there. My G.P. limits the number of complaints per visit to two...I have had to wait 6 months already just for this consult. Most of our Drs took off to the States when our health care system started to pay less. But at least I have health care.

FC, I am just ticked at the total wait now will amount to 8 months. I get checked every five years as mom died of colon cancer. I am pretty sure that there is nothing urgent, just tired of waiting.

Two months is nothing. Around here you can wait a year for some procedures!
I'm sure if there was something suspicious, they'd get you in sooner.

Reb said...

Oh, I am sure they would too.

I'm thinking that two months isn't so bad, considering there's no cost involved. Anyone I've known who has an urgent situation unfolding hasn't had to wait an overly disturbing amount of time. I sure wouldn't want to trade insured medical care for immediate care that I can't afford.

I hope all goes well for you, Reb and that the weather is MUCH warmer by you appointment day.

Your parents sure were a great-looking couple. :)

Oh, yes - today was mom and dad's 60th anniversary, wasn't it?

Reb said...

Thanks Hilary. Yes, you are right, I wouldn't trade either, it just gets so frustrating sometimes.

Sis, yes, hard to believe.

Doctors always talk to each other discussing the patient's condition while in the patient's presence. It's so irritating.

The two month wait isn't bad. Two years ago I was on a waiting list for surgery to reattach my Harrington rod. It looked like I would have to wait at least a year until the rod threatened to come up out the top of my back: I had the surgery within three months. In Ontario, the surgical waits are normally very long. I've been away from Alberta so long things must have changed.

wow - a total of 8 months? That is disgraceful. I'm sorry it's dragging out so long.

That photo of your parents is beautiful - they look like movie stars. So dashing and elegant.

Oh, I almost forgot to say: I made the chicken with bacon gravy last night - it was DELISH! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Oh, that is the sweetest couple, your parents!

Barbara, it has gotten really bad here.

Fiwa, if it were an emergency, they are really good at getting you in fast though. A different era, they were a handsome couple. Glad you liked the recipe.

Thanks Gary, they were great parents too.

Yikes. I'm sorry it's so cold. And that your doc appt was a farce. Happy Anniversary to your parents. Love the old photo!

Barrie, it is supposed to warm up again in the next few days. They were a lovely couple and I love old photos.

Not gonna comment on the procedure because as it is, just from reading your post, it'll be two hours before I can unclench my butt cheeks.

We have the same weather here today, right to the same windchill value. Needless to say, Ben and I cut our walk short this morning.

Love that pic of your folks!

Brrrrrrrrrr. -29 and colonoscopy in the same sentence sent shivers up my spine, starting from my colon!

Bummer on the weather, congrats on the mammogram and blood work though. :)

That was a nice sentiment for your parents.

lol Frank! Benny needs an extra coat for winds like that. Thanks.

Tink, thanks, I'm sure they are.

G-man, sorry about the shivers. Thanks.
