WWC

Weekly Word Challenge for this week uses the words SHINY & ERA. I had a much harder time with Shiny than I did with Era, thanks to both of my parents being of the pack-rat variety. After all, if there is still life in something, you don't throw it away! A lesson that my Sister (the Bag Lady) and I learned very well.

The words for the challenge are brought to us by the ever inventive Tink over at Pickled Beef and the words for next week are going to be quite the challenge! They are ESPIEGLERIE & MONKEYSHINE! As I said, ever inventive (and quite the prankster).

Some of you may have noticed that I did get one slide show up the other day. Well, that seems to be my limit! I can't get Picassa to let me do it again. Oh well, this set of pictures deserves explanations with them, so it is no big loss. Maybe by next week, I will have worked out the bugs.

Without further ado.......

SHINY

The sun Shines (yes I took liberties) through my curtains and makes pretty shadows

and makes pretty shadows on the walls as well.

This silver bowl is Shiny and not, all at the same time. (the pink blob is unfortunately me!)

The Shiny lights guide us safely home at dusk.

ERA

This table cloth is from the '40's (I think)

and of course you used cloth napkins during that era.

Hand embroidered table runner and more napkins from that Era.

A few things no lady of that era would consider leaving home without.

I am pretty sure some of you youngsters have never seen real nylons. They were shaped, foot, ankle, calves and thighs and of course had to be worn with garters. I am glad we are beyond that era.

These are from a different era, they are probably from the late '60's early '70's. They could also work in the shiny category.

And we mustn't forget that the men had to be dashing too. This was dad's dress scarf that he bought to wear with his greatcoat, when on shore leave during WWII.

So, there we go, I hope you have as much fun looking as I did photographing.

Have a good day.

So THAT's where that stuff is!! The Bag Lady was worried that it got tossed out or something! Whew. :)

Good choices, Reb. Loved the sun shining through your curtains - very pretty.

Ooohh those are wonderful. You kicked some butt in that era area. Wow. I feel so "unlady" like right now.

Holy cow! Look at all the "era" treasure. Too too cool. I'm so glad we don't use too many cloth napkins anymore. Imagine the laundry.

That hosiery and all those textiles look so yummy. I wish I could reach into the monitor and touch them. Those beaded purses are a Shiny and Era double-word-score I think.

Thanks Leah, I am really enjoying myself.

Sis, how could you think that any of this stuff would be thrown out? Thanks.

Newt, I am sure you are always a lady, we just don't have to go through the same kind of crap they did.

Tink, that is such a small portion of the stuff too! Yes, I can't imagine trying to do that much laundry - without today's modern machines either.

Clare2e, they are great to have. They feel so different from things we find these days. The textiles are so soft from years of being laundered and loved.

what a collection of items! you are luky to have them, and in such nice condition--and Edmonton is looking surprisingly springlike too

Thanks Gary, yes, it helps to have had parents that were raised during the "dirty thirties"! They learned how to hang onto things. We have been very fortunate with the weather so far.

So many fun era pieces. I personally like the picture with the silver bag and long gloves. Oh the places I would wear them!

Reb said...

Thanks Knight, those were my favorites growing up.

Wow Reb, those are wonderful shots! I love each and every one of them but those era shots are truly special. I can see you're having fun with these challenges. Your results are getting more creative each week. Good stuff!

These are all WONDERFUL! All the beautiful linens and accessories of a bygone era - and it's as if your lovely lamp-post at dusk led us back to that gentler time - twilight, when those ladies would have been getting ready to go out on the town in all their finery. The man's evening scarf was a PERFECT way to end...

Reb said...

Hilary, thank you! I must admit I am having a lot of fun with these.

Chatty, thank you. I didn't even think of the lamppost taking you back, very clever!

Love the blue color in that street lights picture.

And, the 60's gloves and purse pic... awesome!

Well played!

Wicked cool, nicely done. ANd the nylons are still flat and not wrinkled or anything. I guess they knew how to make 'em :)

Wowee, I'm in LOVE with your photos this week! The shots of the sun through the curtains & the lamplight in that stunning blue are wonderful, you have a good eye, Reb.

The era photos are priceless, I can't pick a favorite. I'm a sucker for embroidered napkins & those are so pretty...the gloves & stockings--sigh.

Reb said...

R.E.H. thanks, i didn't even photoshop that one.

G-man, I don't think any of those were ever even worn. The two in original packages certainly weren't.

Fortune Cookies, thanks, glad I could make you smile ;)

Jo,thanks so much! I really like the handkerchiefs myself.

Reb,

Fabulous collection!

I wore those gloves to my senior prom in 1964 AND I'd recognize those stockings anywhere. Plus the flat stocking box with the tissue paper!!! I wore those stocking for years and still have the dents in the back of my thighs from sitting on garters, to prove it!

Terrie

Reb said...

Terrie, thanks. I too remember wearing garters the odd time for special occasions before they came out with pantyhose. I am just glad I never had to wear them daily.

Frank Baron said...

A few of us, ahem, "older" gentlemen miss garters. On women. Not on me of course. Not that there's anything wrong...oh heck!...nice pics!

And when I first saw "era" my thought was "earned run average." Baseball is back!!

Reb said...

Thanks Frank! You want I should pass that info on?

Actually one of the other players did use baseball!
