And so the snowy goes...

The Sun has come out, the temperature has risen. Of course the wind chill is still awful, but it will help to speed the snow along it's way. Of course, it also negates any benefit that might have come from the snow in the way of moisture for the ground.

I thought that this looked really neat the way the snow has slid off the arm of the chair and is still hanging there.

This is the end result of the snow on the pots, I think we got around 35 cm (14 inches) and drifts up to the moon! Update: I just watched the news, the official snowfall was only 29 cm - over the winter we had 28cm which then melted. (11 - 11.5 inches)

If you look really closely you can see the bunnies ears, inside the safety of the tree (bottom left).

I don't know what type of bird lives here (some kind of sparrow?), but they were nest building before this all began. Yes, there is another hole behind all that snow. I don't know if I should go and brush the snow off, or if I should just leave it alone. Any suggestions?

I just realized the cones from the tree are obscuring the view of the top hole a bit too.

Good evening all.

Wow. Great photos, Reb. Love the bunny ears! (had to enlarge the picture to see them)
Poor little birds. Looks like they can still get inside, though.

I am not sure if there are two levels inside, I see them going in one level and out, then hopping up or down to the other level to go in.

What is it with you and Frank hiding critters in the foliage? ;)

Great shots but really.. enough snow!

Sorry, I just had to try to get the shot! Yes, I am done, enough already!

At least it's getting warmer. I can't believe all that snow. So funny how it slid off the chair!

I *think* the only issue with birdhouses is being careful not to leave your scent there...so maybe if you just brush off the snow with a rolled up newspaper or broom handle?

Oh, and about that snow that slid off the arm of the chair - I forgot to say - it looks like your snow has a case of ennui -- perhaps IT is as tired of being here as we are of it!

I can almost see someone sitting in that chair hanging an arm over the side.
I had to enlarge to find the bunny, but I found it.
The snow will be out of the bird house in a day or so and they can't collect any nest building materials right now anyway. I say leave it.

Jo, that was what caught my eye. It looks so neat.

Sis, I wouldn't be surprised.

Leah, exactly what I thought! It is still hanging there now. Thanks, I think I will just leave it.

I think you should brush the snow off the house and I think Jo's right about not leaving a scent. I've seen my neighbor doing that using a broom. He also adds feed to the feeders with a long handled thing and he always had birds hanging out at his place.

Great photos. The snow arm and the pots wearing giant snow hats.

Nifty pics Reb. But did I understand correctly that until that last storm, you'd only received 28 cm this whole winter? I think we got that much on an average Tuesday.

Reb said...

That is what the news indicated last night Frank. It seemed like more though. The bad winters seem to alternate between the East & West - last year, we had what you had this year.

Dianne, I can hear the birds now, it is melting quite nicely. Unfortunately the apartment management won't let us hang feeders. They think it attracts mice.

Did the birds come out yet??

I was to go out your way this past weekend but called it off due to the predicted snow. Looks like we made the right choice.:)

Geosomin, yes, they are back. Good choice on staying home. Bad weather last weekend.
