Sibu
Well, the vet didn't really have a lot of good news. She thinks it could be one of a few things, but, without blood work (Minimum of $120.00 that I don't have) she can't really be sure. It could be kidney problems, thyroid problems, diabetes or cancer. There is no guarantee that the labs would give us an answer and no cure for any of the conditions...they can be managed with medications that I can't afford though. We are going to leave well enough alone for the time being and I will just have to keep a close eye on him and make sure he eats and drinks. In the meantime hopefully I will get a job that will allow me to afford the blood work and whatever medications. She said that his kidneys are small and there is a mass in his abdomen that could be a kidney, but it has a strange shape to it. So, I am just going to enjoy his company as long as he is happy and comfortable and take each day as it comes. Which means checking to see if his chest moves 3 or 4 times a day.
Have a good day all.

That's the hardest part of having a pet - they can't tell us what's wrong, and the tests are so expensive! (And they aren't covered by health care, dammit!)
Oh, i'm so sorry to hear this. So i'll continue to pray.
Bag Lady, even when you can buy health insurance for pets, it's expensive, too, and doesn't cover much.
Sis it is hard. And even if we know what's wrong the medications are just as expensive.
Messymimi, thanks for your prayers.
jeez, you're kind of going through the same thing as me with my dog. That's my mantra, too...as long as he's happy and doesn't seem to be in pain.
Hugs!!!
Awww sorry to hear that, Reb. Hopefully Sibu will continue to carry though comfortably for a long time. Sending my best thoughts and hugs your way.
I had no internet yesterday, so I'm late in saying I wish Sibu the best.

Janet, yes indeed. I keep telling myself and him, not today.
Hilary, thanks I am sure they will help.
Mary Ann, no such thing as late. Thank you.
Oh, Reb, I'm sorry! :*(
As I experienced with my mother last year, sometimes even if we do know what's wrong, treating the problem isn't always the best solution.
Making Sibu feel loved and comfortable is perhaps the best thing you can do, money or none. And I *know* you will do those 2 things to the best of your ability. A pet doesn't ask us for more than that.

Thanks Karen. Yes, I will be spoiling him a bit more than usual, just to get him to eat.
So sorry.
Thanks Leah.
