I knew it was too much!

Since last Saturday I have had insomnia. I get three sometimes four hours of sleep and then I am awake for anywhere from 17 to 22 hours and then only get three to four hours of sleep.

It caught up to me Wednesday night, I went to bed at midnight and actually fell asleep right away. I woke up after three hours, but was able to fall back to sleep for the first time in a week. The second time I woke up I suppose I should have stayed up, but I thought I might see if I could get closer to eight hours.

I should not have done that. I wound up getting a total of 12 hours sleep and felt wonderful when I did finally get up. Unfortunately, it was too much. So, here it is 06.00 Friday and I am going to give it another try.

Have a good day all.

You've been up all night, haven't you? Dang. Hope you get straightened around soon!

Oh, my. Your Circadian rhythms must be having quite a go at you.
Hope you get things sorted out soon.

Oh, Reb, I'm sorry.

I get limited broken sleep, then finally crash like I did this week when I slept off and on all day Tuesday and still went to bed on Tuesday night.

Have you had a sleep study?
I'm getting one next Friday night.

Ugh. The computer is a bad place to be when you can't sleep. It keeps you more alert, and the hours just fly by. I've spent far too much time learning that the hard way. Consider choosing a time to walk away from it and don't go back to it until you've had a decent stretch of sleep. Face it, we're all just too interesting for you! ;)

I hope you're snoring soundly. :)

Leah, they are. Me too.

Kcinnova, No, I haven't done any studies - good luck with yours.

Hilary, I know, I do find you all so fascinating ;)

Thanks Lauren. Me too!

Thanks Gary.

Oh insomnia is the worst, isn't it? I didn't sleep well the whole time I was gone on vacation. I'd wake up 4 times a night every night.

I hope whatever was causing yours passes over soon so you can get some rest.

love,
fiwa

Thanks G-man. I'd settle for that.

Thanks Fiwa, I hope it straightens out in the next couple of days.

I hear ya Reb. Of the myriad afflictions that beset us from middle-age on, broken sleep is in the Top Five most annoying.

I'm glad you got that good one under your belt though. I had a great one a week or so ago but overall, am not doing as badly as you. I can usually manage 4-5 uninterrupted hours and half the time can re-doze for another hour or so.

Now where are those car keys....?

Frank, who you calling middle-aged?

The keys are in the top left coat pocket ;)

I have a similar problem but maybe not quite as bad. I'm thinking of having my wife knock me out with a ball-peen hammer if it gets any worse.

Reb said...

Ouch! David, I hope it doesn't get to that point!

Ever since I hurt my back at the last job in August I've had regular bouts of insomnia, often unable to sleep until 4am or 5am and then waking at 9:30am. Today I dozed off on the TTC subway and nearly missed my stop. I hate to think what I'll do when I find a new job. Oh well, something will work out.

Have you checked with your doctor over the medication you're taking? Maybe its a side effect.

Oh darn, how frustrating!

I have few natural talents in life, but one of them is sleeping, so I'm afraid I have no helpful advice on insomnia. It strikes me so rarely I can just do something simple and dorky like counting backwards to clear my mind, and then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

So sorry, I know it's a miserable problem to have. Hope it clears up soon!

Barbara, dozing on the subway is a scary thing. I know that my drugs were what started it, but they are back to what they should be, so now I just have to get my sleep back to normal.

Crabby, thanks. I think we are getting there.
