Damn...missed it by that much!

I pay so much attention to my blogging duties, that my one year blogiversay slipped by unnoticed back in which ever fall month that was. Oh, well! I thought, I will make a big deal of hitting two hundred posts.

So, this is post 201! Well, at least I am close ;)

This is the first year in ... who knows how long, that I have actually sent out Christmas cards - let alone before Christmas. That is quite the accomplishment for me. Of course the Bag Lady's gift is still in production phase (things got screwed up - such is my year) and it has to be mailed up north. If all goes well, she might get it this year.

I was over at a friends tonight making Lefse. OMG is it good! This is the third of fourth year that we have made it and we are getting better at it. For those that are not of Scandinavian descent....Lefse is a flatbread (but we don't make the potato lefse which you can find a million recipes for), we make the sweet dessert type. It has 800,000,000,000,000 calories per piece, because it it made with buttermilk, whipping cream, flour, butter, syrup and egg. Then is is slathered with butter mixed with sugar and cinnamon. She sent me home with some home-made nuts & bolts when we were done....very tasty too and made with more butter! Between just those two recipes, that is 2.5 lbs of butter! I will be making shortbread....another lb of butter and she will be making some other things which will take at least one more lb, and another batch of nuts & bolts.

I will get back to watching my cholesterol in January!

So, now that I have you all drooling on your keyboards...what are your favorite things to make for Christmas?

Have a good day all.

Having benefitted from your Lefse I can echo your OMG it's good! and I'll raise you an mmmmmmm!
I am quite sure it is what cured my heart failure last year.
Mike does the Christmas baking and I have to say the assorted fruitcakes he makes are my fave.

Congrats on the cards. We are horrible at getting them out on time too. We may be to the point where last year's cards go out this year, and so on.

That Lefse sounds really good. Your assessment of drool on the keyboard was right on! :)

Hmmm. I have not yet started my cards this year, either. Unbelievably late for me.

Okay, you twisted my arm. You can send me some lefse......:)

Don't think I'll get around to making any myself!

You got the drool factor right. Sounds yummy. And the beauty of it is - I'm on cholesterol lowering drugs so I could eat ALL I want!

If I had any.

Which I don't.

Rats.

Oh well. Merry Christmas anyway. ;)

Wiping the drool off my keyboard!
Lefse is indescribably good.
Christmas letter was written before Thanksgiving but was just mailed out with the cards this week. Packages to go in mail in about 30 minutes. YIKES!!
Several homemade gifts not done yet. Hopefully they will get them before 2008 is history. That's my story. Baking happens next week!

Leah, I am glad you enjoyed last years batch and I can see it as a heart curative, really, I can ;)

G-man, I did that one year, just changed the date on the "hope you have a good __ to the current year!

Sis, I am surprised at you, you're the one that is always organized! I will send you some, well, any that's left after this afternoon's office party ;) (of course I won't take that much with me)

Terrie, some people are just better at other things, like writing great stories!

Missicat, my best friend used to live just down the block and I used to invariably drop by to visit on the day she was baking something - it was like it called out to me.

Thanks Crabby!

Poor Frank, on the other hand, you have all that wonderful Ukrainian food to look forward to ;)

Kcinnova, it is isn't it. For something so simple, you'd think it would be easier to make too.

Buttery foods don't appeal to me too much.. lucky for that. But chocolate.. good thing nobody said THAT word! Happy 201st!

Reb said...

Hilary, thanks. I try to avoid making stuff with chocolate.

Didn't you know, at Christmas everything has half the calories and fat it normally does! It's magic! Of course, it all comes back (in your gut) on January 1st. *La Sigh*

Thanks Tink, now I know I have to just sleep through Jan 1st! Oh, that probably won't work though.
