Well, I finally did it!

I went and purchased a new camera! I have been playing with it since I got home last night and so far, I am very happy with it. It is an Olympus SP-550UZ, it has 7.1 Mp and 18 X Optical Zoom. Now, it is going to take me some time to figure out all that it can do, but here are a few of my first photos with it.

No flash, in my living room, with some zoom, last night.


Around noon, I stepped out onto my patio and zoomed all the way, then had to back off. I think it is about 20 feet to the tree.

Maximum zoom, click and see the craters! The little ones!

About 20.30 hrs looking West (duh) down my front road.


I had to climb to the third floor landing to get this shot, but I like how it turned out.


I tried to get another shot of the moon later, but it must have been possessed, all I got were these ghosts!



Note to self - buy a tripod.


Well, not bad for the first few shots! I hope to have a better grasp on it by Tuesday for the WWC. I know that it will take a lot longer than that to figure out the manual settings and all the other things it can do, but, I will be taking fabulous photos before you know it!

So, the two black things in the photo labeled Esplieglie ( or whatever) are very old pieces of dental equipment. The tall black piece on the right is a Bunsen burner and the scale on the left is for weighing mercury & amalgam for fillings. Did I ever mention my Dad was a dentist?

Once again it is Tuesday folks and that means photos! Lots of photos! For those that haven't joined in the fun, check out Tink at Pickled Beef, she is our lovely hostess and has the scoop.

Tink had a little fun with us last week by telling us on April 1st that the words were Espieglerie & Monkeyshine. She relented on the 2nd and gave us the words Smooth & Rough. She did say that she would give us bonus points if we could use the first set of words though. I am all about the bonus points! Sis, don't give the first two away, but you might remember the others and get a laugh.

April Showers!

Of course up here, that means SNOW showers! This is the sight that greeted me this morning as I opened my curtains!


This is the same lawn on which the bunnies were frolicking the other day.

We are under a heavy snowfall warning here, expecting 10-15 cm of this (4-6 inches)! Our temperature is not bad it is only -5c/23F, but the windchill is -12c/10F!

WWC

Weekly Word Challenge for this week uses the words SHINY & ERA. I had a much harder time with Shiny than I did with Era, thanks to both of my parents being of the pack-rat variety. After all, if there is still life in something, you don't throw it away! A lesson that my Sister (the Bag Lady) and I learned very well.

The words for the challenge are brought to us by the ever inventive Tink over at Pickled Beef and the words for next week are going to be quite the challenge! They are ESPIEGLERIE & MONKEYSHINE! As I said, ever inventive (and quite the prankster).

Some of you may have noticed that I did get one slide show up the other day. Well, that seems to be my limit! I can't get Picassa to let me do it again. Oh well, this set of pictures deserves explanations with them, so it is no big loss. Maybe by next week, I will have worked out the bugs.

Without further ado.......

SHINY

The sun Shines (yes I took liberties) through my curtains and makes pretty shadows


and makes pretty shadows on the walls as well.


This silver bowl is Shiny and not, all at the same time. (the pink blob is unfortunately me!)


The Shiny lights guide us safely home at dusk.


ERA

This table cloth is from the '40's (I think)

and of course you used cloth napkins during that era.

Hand embroidered table runner and more napkins from that Era.

A few things no lady of that era would consider leaving home without.

I am pretty sure some of you youngsters have never seen real nylons. They were shaped, foot, ankle, calves and thighs and of course had to be worn with garters. I am glad we are beyond that era.

These are from a different era, they are probably from the late '60's early '70's. They could also work in the shiny category.

And we mustn't forget that the men had to be dashing too. This was dad's dress scarf that he bought to wear with his greatcoat, when on shore leave during WWII.



So, there we go, I hope you have as much fun looking as I did photographing.
