Busy, busy, busy

I have been working hard to get my apartment clean so that I can finally paint now that my hip is behaving itself. We were supposed to have an inspection today for bedbugs, so I timed it that I would have it clean(ish) for that, then I could paint after.

Turns out the fumigator thought she was only inspecting a few suits around a recently vacated suite that was a horror. So, now we have to re-book the inspections and follow much more stringent (no scent in the apartment for 24 hours, no smoking etc.) set of guidelines. Oh, did I mention they are bringing a dog around to sniff everything? No? Well, apparently, they have a dog trained to sniff out bedbugs. Bedbugs have only been a problem in our city in the last 2 or 3 years. Prior to that very few incidents.

I have decided to hell with that, I am going to continue on with washing and then painting the walls, if they happen to book the appointment for while I am painting, oh well. It has been cold enough that if I don't do it soon, it won't get done while I can still open windows.

I am 100% sure that I don't have them and 97% sure that none of the neighbours in the wing I live in have them. (I would even venture to say I am 90% sure of the whole building and 80% sure of the whole complex, but that would just be inviting trouble.)

So no photo this Friday, I have been trying to play with a few and hope to have them up soon though.

Have a good weekend all.

I hope the bedbugs appreciate all your hard work. Seriously, I'm glad it's being looked at and I'm sure everything is okay.
Enjoy your cleaning and painting.

Thanks Leah. I am glad it's being looked at too.

Get to the painting, I agree. You shouldn't have to delay your life because someone else had a scheduling snafu.

Messymimi, I don't know how long it will take to get it rescheduled. It is looking like a lot more money now and the owners hate to spend money.

I'd move forward also, who knows when or even if they'll re-schedule

NYC is riddled with bedbugs!!
hotels, office buildings
it's amazing

there are bedbug removal services popping up like crazy and one of them features a bedbug sniffing dog

Dianne, apparently that is where they think this started is NYC. This will make an interesting post when it gets done.

Ahh bedbugs are becoming a big problem in Toronto too. Seems like it's happening everywhere. Wise of you to move ahead with your painting. You can't just keep your life on hold. Remember to relax and not overdo!

All the talk of bedbugs is making me re-think traveling without a tent. Just sitting here and reading about them make me itch!
Do we get painting pictures?

Sounds like you are very busy.

I had a great weekend thought it was short.

Hilary, thanks. I just have to get this place done, I've been working on it since spring ;)

Karen, I know how you feel! Yes, I will post photos after I've painted.

David, yes, I am. Glad you had a good weekend.

Is that something that you want to do or is it some sort of requirement now, the inspection? I mean if you aren’t getting bit….

Scott, with my latex mattress, I won't get bedbugs in my bed, but they like carpets and other soft furnishings too. The management is going to make it a requirement and I don't think it is a bad idea. I think they should do it with every new tenant, but that they will probably never do.

I inspected every bed we slept in on our holiday.... didn't see any telltale signs, so I hope we arrived home bedbug-free!

And I've been watching the news regarding bedbugs in Edmonton, so it seems a wise idea to have the apartment inspected, but I agree with the others who have said to go ahead and do your cleaning and painting - who knows when they will actually get around to the inspection!

Thanks Sis. Yes, I would have been examining everything closely too!
