Photo Finish Friday

OOPS! I don't know what I did with the first roll of film, but it didn't turn out, or at least the lab didn't think they did. In spit of being told they were dark shots. You can see the moon on the negative in about three shots, the rest of the film is pale grey except for a couple of sections that are medium grey. Oh well, at least they were kind enough not to charge me for it. Lets hope the other roll turns out when I am finished with it.

In the meantime, I took this with my digital while I was playing with the film camera.

Sadly the zoom on my camera, while amazing, is not the same as my friends Nikon, there was so much detail looking through that lens. Well, I will try again.

Have a good weekend all.

Ahh - your light is shining clear and true. There is something very special about the moon.

I always love a full moon, always! Great shot!

My camera has trouble with the moon, too. Your moon is almost as bright as the sun!

I'm hoping you try more film. I'm still considering it.

LOL, my word verification is cruds.

Live and learn re: the film. At least you got something out of it, and you have your field notes on the settings. Was there an actual flaw in the film?

Your digital does a fine job with the moon pics. Do you have a readout available for the settings you used for this? I'm most curious.

Thanks Dawn. I think so too.

Scott, thanks, me too.

Karen, that's the hunters moon. Very bright, I have a fairly dark spot behind the apartment too ;)

Leah,I am not sure if there was a flaw in the film or not, I did open the back (in a darkened room) you can see a bit of that, but I did a few photos inside where the light was good and they should have worked.

I didn't write down the settings, good thing the computer is smarter than I am some days. They were: ISO 125; F4.5; 1/3 sec; 84mm length; max aperture 2.97

A full moon shot is beautiful, digital or otherwise. The good thing is, you get to try again next month.

Messymimi, yes, that is one good thing, there will always be another chance at it!

Reb a couple of years back, before I had my DSLR, I was doing what I could to get some shots of a lunar eclipse. Of course the beauty of digital over film is the instant feedback. Here's what finally worked for me:

Resolution: 715 x 556

Flash Used: No

Focal Length: 72.0mm (35mm equivalent: 1441...

CCD Width: 1.80mm

Exposure Time: 0.0063 s (1/160)

Aperture: f/8.0

Whitebalance: Manual

For whatever reason, it didn't record the ISO but I assume it would have been around 100.

Hilary, thank you. I was using ISO 100 and trying different apertures and exposures, I am pretty sure had the film come out I would have had some good shots. I will try those settings again with this film that is in though and hope it works.
