Photo Finish Friday

It is Friday, right? The last couple of weeks have been so busy trying to get the painting done, working extra hours at work, recovering from trying to paint so that I can paint some more. I have also been playing...I borrowed my friends Nikon SLR film camera, to remind myself how to use f-stops and apertures etc. because I want to start saving for a DSLR.  I know there is nothing wrong with the camera I have, but, I also know I can make better photos. Of course, once I get the film developed, I may just tuck my tail between my legs and give the whole idea up ;)

So, until I see how those came out, here is a shot from the dog park we went to a couple weeks ago. (no, none of us has a dog)

Ha! You thought is was going to be a dog! No, it is a tree penis! By the time we found that in the middle of the path, I was tired and getting a bit punchy. According to the map that was on the trail, it went around in a big circle. The only problem is it goes around in several circles, some of which are only open for cross country skiing and we had to back track a few times before finding our way back to the open field. The trail in the wooded section is covered in roots and you have to walk with one eye pointing down to avoid tripping and one up to avoid getting whacked in the face with a branch. I will do a proper post on the dog park at a later date...once I have caught up with a few things around here.

So, hope you all have a wonderful fun filled weekend!

The PFF is the brainchild of my cousin Leah at The Goat's Lunch Pail.

I can't wait to see the results (or at least hear about them) from your SLR adventure! I've been considering doing the same experiment, although my DSLR is probably very far in the future.

A tree penis... I'm holding back from the comments I could be making here...

Love the tree penis pic.
Very good idea with the practice camera.
May I suggested playing with it without film? Take the lens off and move the aperture ring to see the stop sizes, and adjust the shutter speeds and listen for how long it is open. Then fire up a roll of film and have at it.
Can't wait to see your posted results.

The tree penis looks like it's been well used..... as a scratching post!

Good luck with the practice camera. I have never understood all that stuff - give me point and shoot and I'm happy! (But I've always been a bit of a simpleton that way.)

I didn't know that trees HAD penises. I've been so sheltered I guess. ;-)

Have fun with the SLR and keep in mind how much easier/cheaper/quicker it is to get a good shot with a DSLR.

You have a fun, mischievous eye. Your tree penis is cool. And look how it enlarges when you click on it... ;)

Thanks Karen, I'm not sure any are going to be any good and it will be awhile before I get a DSLR. You shouldn't hold back you know, it's not good for you, they come out unexpectedly!

Leah, thanks. That was the first thing that popped into my head when I warned my friends to watch for it. Darn, I wish I'd thought of that...into my second roll, I've been shooting and writing down the settings though b&w for now.

Sis, people and dogs tripping over it. Well, last time I actually had to work settings myself was back in high school.

Jay, I was quite surprised myself!

Hilary, I am so used to my digital now, I kept looking to see if the shot turned out ;) Thanks, I was quite amazed at the shot ;)

Thanks Dianne. Yes, I am a bit of a perfectionist ;)

I'm so glad you called it a tree penis. I was looking at the photo trying to figure out what it was at a glance and all I could think was, that is not a dog... it looks like a penis coming out of the ground. A tree penis! AND then there it was written by you right underneath.

Knight, I am so glad I am not the only one who thought penis at first glance ;)

Bet you had a sharp rise in traffic after that post, Reb!

Fascinating tree roots as long as you don't trip over them. Imagine having to explain what caused the fall!

Your tree penis (and it is certainly yours!) is so lifelike and… and… well, awesome! Have a good weekend your damn self!

Dawn, I haven't checked my traffic! And I almost did trip ;)

Scott, gee thanks ;)
