Photo Finish Friday: Flower!
One of my neighbours handed me this flower as I was going past her place with a prospective tenant. Sadly I can't remember what she called it, but, it smelled heavenly!
Have a good weekend all.

Photo Finish Friday: Flowers
This is the first time in years that we have been on the hwy when the flowers have been blooming in the ditch. It is either too early, too late, or the mower has gotten to them first. We have Indian Paintbrush, (Fireweed I think), Daises, Purple Clover and Wild Tiger Lilies. Probably more too, I just can't tell.
Have a good weekend all.

The things you can learn!
The "spider" from yesterday's post, isn't even a spider at all! Not that that makes any difference to my phobia, or yours. They are in fact called Harvestmen, what we commonly know as "daddy long legs" around here are in fact "Cellar Spiders".
From Wikipedia:
From Wikipedia:
Although they belong to the class of arachnids, harvestmen are not counted as spiders, which are of the order araneae rather than the order opiliones.
In some places, harvestmen are known by the name "daddy longlegs" or "granddaddy longlegs", but this name is also used for two other unrelated arthropods: the crane fly (Tipulidae) and the cellar spider (Pholcidae).[citation needed]

Another example:
Amaranthus, the very pretty flower that the not-spider was on - is pig weed! My neighbour just asked what it was and when I said amaranthus she said oh, that is pig weed. Yesterday when I searched I used "love lies bleeding" (I couldn't remember the correct name) and it says nothing about it being pig weed. If you search amaranthus, it says - right in the first line - pig weed! It is also edible, which I forgot to mention yesterday. Almost makes me want to just let the pig weed that I've been pulling up grow!

So, at least my day wasn't a complete waste! I learned a couple of new things, which is always good. Got some laundry done, figured out which bills I can pay and still eat. Now, I am going to go read, or something exciting like that.
Have a good day all.

Flowers
This is my Amaranthus next to my window - um, actually I think there are three plants close together there.
This is a close up of a spider that was visiting - I don't know what it is, but it is not a daddy long legs.

My day lilies are blooming, tucked in under the amaranthus, they are hard to see...must remember next year to plant something else there.

This is the other trio of amaranthus - they fell over, so I had to go and stake them. They are not doing quite as well.

If anyone knows what that spider is, please let me know. I am not having much luck on the net finding it.
Have a good day all.

Monday already!
So, after last weekend, this weekend was quiet! Didn't do much of anything except work. I did play around with the tripod that my friend is lending me, so I have some photos to share from Friday.
From the garden, this is the the mystery plant that survived from last year. Cousin Leah's Hubby ID'd it as rock wort (I think). Pretty blossoms and it is doing really well.
These are the yellow marigolds. Such a great yellow.
These are the vines I am growing this year, the yellow flowering one is Canary Bird Vine and the other is Creeping Charlie. (with more yellow marigolds)
This is the Love Lies Bleeding that I had to move after I read the card. I started them in pots and they are about 3 feet high now.

This is the sky looking east as the sun is setting - 21.21 hrs according to the camera.
This is looking east at 21.24. By the look of the clouds I thought that would be it.
Then just before 22.00 my friend called and said to go look at the sunset. This is 21.58 by the camera.
This just a minute later.

There were many more, but none as good as these and still the colour is not great, it was much redder and more intense. I did try adjusting it in photoshop but couldn't get it right.
Tomorrow's WWC will be Sign & Graffiti, I have photos I didn't use the first time, so will post those.
Have a great Monday all.

Monday Garden Shots
It is 01.52 hrs. Outside it is 21c (69F). Inside it is about 500 Kelvin! Oh, alright, my thermometer is reading 29C still (around 80F). I have four fans running, oh and a ceiling fan & all of my windows open. I have to close them all before bed as I live on the ground floor and don't want to have just anyone walk in. With the humidex today, the temperature was about 32c which is about "too fucking hot" F, or 90ish.
This first photo is from my phone. You can just see the spiderweb I was aiming for, but I quite like the flare I got instead.
This is the first blossom on my Calendula (bell flower).

Violas with some carnations.

Just the carnations.

If you look really closely, you can see he has a worm for the babies. I missed the shot of his trying to get in the hole.

They have to scramble to get inside and it is so funny to see, I will get a movie of it one day I hope.
Have a good day all.

What are you?
I found these over at the Cafe at the end of the Universe blog and thought they were fun and that I would share.
You Are a Light Pink Rose |
You represent sweetness and grace. Your vibe: Kind and gentle Falling in love with you: is like falling in love with a best friend |
What Color Rose Are You?
You Are An Iris |
You are a unique person who seeks out novelty in life. An inspiration seeker, you often have to change scenery to recharge. You don't deal well with structure or rules. You need to do it your own way. Your ideal relationships are free and flowing. No one can tie you down. |

Tying up loose ends.
This is what the office looks like now. Yep, a lot brighter than before, but I really like it.

Of course it doesn't really look like Honey anything, more lemon sherbet, but, after three coats, it is staying this way for awhile. (Yes, Sis, you will recognize the paintings. I figured if there was something decent up, maybe she wouldn't go too tacky.)

This flower popped up in my friends front flower bed (on the North side of her house). anybody have any guesses? We haven't got a clue what it could be, but it is very pretty.

We were walking around taking pictures for Tuesdays challenge and I snapped this and thought it turned out rather well. I should know what the red bush is, but can't think of it right now.

Further to my creepy neighbour. I remembered last night, that there had been a fellow not too long ago in one of the other bldgs that I had to let the cops into his suite. It turns out he wasn't the guy they wanted, but, while I was standing there, I noticed he had a chain (like the kind you attach children's stuffed toys too) hanging in his front closet. From this chain the man had hanging huge knives and a very large butcher's chopping blade. I found out later that he was in fact a butcher, but still, you use that kind of thing at work, and you leave your tools there.
I doubled checked this afternoon at work and it is the same fellow who is now my creepy neighbour! Needless to say, I will be ignoring & avoiding him, and treating him with kid gloves. Our maintenance man said he has been in the suite and there is nothing like that there now, but, on the other hand this guy would know when the maintenance man was coming in.
My friend and I are going tomorrow to buy a Shade Sail, they are on sale at a local chain outlet and I think I can afford it. The best part of that, is it can be put up right away.
I am being asked, very persistently to please go outside, so someone can eat some grass, so I guess that is it for today.
Good evening all.
